Hi
After the tax sale is over and I turn out to be the highest tenderer, how fast can I know that?
OTS says the municipality would notify by mail, would that take a few days? Can I call to find out then I can pay the rest and begin registering tax deed?

Don't wait for the mail.
Attend the opening and find out immediately....if you can't, call the treasurer first thing in the morning and get the results. If you won, take the day off, and head directly to his/her office with your payment. You must do everything you can to expedite the registration of the tax deed. Remember that redemption can occur at any time right up until the minute your name is on title, but not after. If you won the property for say $50,000, make sure you give the Treasurer $65,000 to make sure that all costs are covered...land transfer taxes, HST etc...make sure that he/she has more than enough money to cover the deal (and ask him to apply any residual to the tax account as a pre-payment . ..you can always ask for it back later). While you are there make sure he has all the info. he needs, he will need you to sign some forms, and he will need particulars as to the name it is to go into.
If it is in northern Ontario, and he needs to get clearance from Northern Mines, then do whatever you can to get it to him. I lost one a couple of years ago, the Treasurer had a faxed copy in his hands, but wouldn't register the deed until he had the original. Ironically both their offices were close, but they mailed the notice...Had I known I would have paid for a cab to deliver it, or picked it up myself. I lost the deal as the former owner came in and redeemed...very aggravating and costly for me. 8)
