More horror stories

I'm sure that in this case it is the Counties fault as they likely originally required the one reserve foot parcel as a holding zone to limit the development until certain things happened....but failed to have it removed before the development proceeded.   I would put nasty letters in their mailboxes every day, and perhaps paint a one foot wide purple stripe on the wall of their villas, and place a row of ugly garden gnomes on the one foot between the two properties....just keep doing crazy things until they decide to pay up. There is plenty of "unbuildable land" that is useful for adjacent land owners.  

If you can't identify garbage land that  you can't use  then you shouldn't be in this game.  

If you won a bid by overpaying and are now stuck with garbage .... Google Darwin

Good call PFM1011 (must be pilot code).   And as Ruok said, Municipalities haver to follow protocol....or the 'rule of law', and that law basically states that these properties must be put up for tax sale first, and if no one bids (this is where Darwin kicks in), then the Municipality can take the land and use it for whatever, or give it to whomever they want, and deem can best use it.   This is really simple folks...why would you bid on these types of properties, unless you owned the property next door and needed this to round out you holdings.  Cool

Dave is well studied in this situation, and knows whereof he speaks.   I have also personally experienced this situation (no thanks to Curtis).  The solution to this and other similar post-sale redemptions is for the Province to over-rule the courts by way of legislation that specifically bars post-sale redemptions....which would end the nail-biting.

Not sure that this will ever happens as the Province doesn't care that we are out of pocket on the whole ordeal, their end game is to provide the Municipalities with a sure fire method of collecting taxes one way or the other.  

Perhaps we can get Dougie to invoke the 'not-withstanding' clause on our behalf.  In my mind that would be worth more than buck-a-beer.   Cool

I recently won the Tehkummah bid for 25 more acres on my beloved Manitoulin.  There isn't any longitude or latitude coordinates for the property stakes in any of the paperwork for either of my properties.  I won a 100 acre tax sale, one lot over a couple years ago.  Does anyone know where I could access the stake info without having to go to a surveyor?  I went to the twp office and they are not up to date with their planning maps. Hoping someone has the answer.


Could you please Private Message me.    I have a couple of suggestions that I consider commercially sensitive and require an understanding of your plans for the property.   This is not a subject for public discourse on the board and I apologize if I offend other members.    Note I would be surprised if this property and the adjacent one you have, have ever been surveyed.   For large rural properties the survey cost is typically much more then people realize, almost as much as your winning bid.

One question I can ask publically is do you have access to a GPS.   Note as well what I will propose will require you to do a site visit.


Dave, Dave....any boy scout can locate the corners....but only a scout leader can find the real commercial purpose in all of it.   Maybe leave it to the Hill-Billy, he has all the answers.  Cool

Never say never as to redemptions.....perhaps Curtis (aka Hill-Billy) will work out a deal with the current owners and scoop up these lovely gems.

If you are in the hole boring business, then that motto makes perfect sense.

Once the geo-tech work is done and if there are contaminants found, then the real dollars start to roll out for the clean-up.   Might as well take your dollar bills and light them up as you pour them into the hole that I have drilled for you.
