Title: Pelee Tax Sale
Post by: ClearTitle on October 11, 2006, 12:36:23 AM
Any word on how the Pelee sale went today?
I was told from the Clerk that one of the owners held 6 of the properties and had paid up taxes on 3 of them, therefore cancelling 3 (and the 2 that I was interested in)  Any news as to the prices of the other 3-4 properties?
Did anyone go?

Thanks for your replies

I guess no one can actually answer this because I think the Municipality has really bumbled this tax sale.  I called today, some 3 days after the apparent 'sale' and was informed that the lawyer was still dealing with it and they wouldn't have results until the middle of NEXT WEEK!  To me, this seems a little strange, taking 5-7 business days to figure out who was the highest tender.  There were only 7 properties up for sale, so I'm really confused as to what the whole bureaucratic hold up really is.   Has anyone out there ran into this sort of bumbling in past sales?  Is it normal not to get results for a good week and a half? Any input would be great, especially red flagging any municipalities that seem to be notorious for this type of behaviour.  I'm glad I decided against putting in a bid!

Thanks

This sounds like the city is having second thoughts about the sale of these properties.  The only reason I can see for a lawyer taking this long to process the highest bidder is to find a loop-hole.  Either the property sold for really cheap or the interest was overwhelming and the municipality thinks they can get a higher amount.  But the law is the law and they have to sell this property if the minimum amount was met.
