Title: Now that our fun has ended maybe time to look for further pastures
Post by: Dave2 on January 23, 2014, 02:33:16 PM
Now Haldimand county has moved their tax sale to mid winter.

I wonder who had the tailgate party at Cayuga last August and as a result gave us a party reputation.  I was so looking forward to mid June (Friday the 13th) and a big gathering at the track.   :'(

Maybe time to look further afield.  How about lobster in March particularly as beef prices hit an all time record lately.

My hats off to Dave 2 for trying to keep a little life to this board while we sit through the mid winter blues. A  shot of Karma for Dave.

Ruok:

Not yet.  Time to test your powers of observation.

They hibernate a long time in the maritimes more like Rip van winkle.   For the first one to notice; the usual beer or hot chocolate. What is wrong with my post and why did I post it?

Frogs, bats and those on unemployment traditionally hibernate in the maritimes but you got me with the Rip Van Winkle angle.

How about old trees that get blown around during random ice storms and contribute to the ecosystem?  That's as esoteric as I can get!

Well, it's for a tax sale in March of 2013 -- but wouldn't that be more Back To The Future then Rip Van Winkle?

No, wait!  I hadn't reviewed the Haldimand tax sale package when I made my earlier guess.  Perhaps Dave2 is suggesting that a hamburger/Lobster po'boy stand would fit perfectly on that 'Lake Erie Beachfront' parcel.  Covers the reference to Haldimand, beef, Lobster, and tail-gate parties all in one.

You are correct and PM me to make arrangements to collect.   ;)

The Rip van winkle refers to the delay to update the website or someone
who forgot this is 2014, either case you have to check with the township.

The reason I posted it is a number of municipalities in the maritimes seem to have a more fixed seasonal time schedule unlike Haldimand County that
obviously does not like us wild tax sale party people going to the track after the sale.

In the maritimes it is commonly a bid in person situation so you can plan your trip and get your lobster.

Don't ignore Halidmand county as they have a pattern I have seen before, after a period of inactivity a new treasurer decided to get the deadbeats.

I don't know about everyone else on this board but it is cold outside.

How cold.  How instant freezing of the fish?

That lead me to thinking why are all the smart people heading south?  A little research and guess what I found.  From this website.

http://www.jamaicatax.gov.jm/index.php/2012-05-14-21-26-35/property-tax

Extracting:

What actions can the government take to recover unpaid property taxes?A     Under the Tax Collection Act the tax collector may take the following actions:

?Request Direct Payments from Accountant General in cases where property tax is owed by Public Officers.
?Issue summonses for arrears and penalties owed, if persons fail attend Court, a Warrant of Disobedience may result, where they may be imprisoned for up to three (3) months or an ?Ex Parte order can be made.
?Levy Warrant or Distrain on Goods/Chattel seizure of goods and auction of same to recover outstanding property tax
?Levy Warrant Distrain on Securities, etc. seizure money, bonds, securities, etc and disposal to recover outstanding Property Tax.
?Caveat on the Property (lien):- This blocks the person from transacting any business with the property, such as sale or collateral.

?Forfeiture of Property:- The property may be seized and sold to recover property tax owed.

?Collect from People in Possession-payments may be demanded from persons in possession of or occupying the property. E.g. owner, occupier, renter, mortgagee, leasee or other person in actual possession of the property.

All right wolfpack how do they sell them?  For that information I might even be willing to pay a premium beer like a redstripe.
