Islands

Hi Rob,

what is your experience in regards to purchasing an island (or part of one) as a tax sale property?

Rob:
It is possible to purchase an island or part of one as a tax sale property.  I saw a great small island on the St. Lawrence in eastern Ontario that went up for tax sale in the last year or so.   The initial bidding price was reasonable, but I'd like to see what the property went for after all of the bids were in.

In a good year a handful of small islands are up for sale.  But if you are interested in purchasing part of an island then you could always wait until a Manitoulin island property becomes available (here is the most recent listing for a Manitoulin property http://www.taxsaleproperty.org/Tax-Sale-Ontario-11-September-2004.html ).

I'd say focus on where you want the island property rather then just any island property because you want the property to be in a location accessible to yourself.
