How did you first learn about Tax Sale Properties?

Did you first hear about them through a friend or co worker?  Did you accidently find out when you started looking for a home?

I learned ,
when I watching american channels talked about tax lien or tax sale, foreclosure certificates etc etc.
some John.. guy said
you can buy this that, its so cheap, house so beautiful and the buyers couple says glad, happily, now its worth over $$$$ so much.

then only I started researching usa properties, and to Canada now to Ontario > and ended up in this site

Lolzzz. hahaha

But I would like to learn all before I start the first BID on something..  any suggestion ?? (I like to put like 500$, buy a small land somewhere in ontario close to a lake )
hopefully another few yrs it will go up..  :)

You'd best check the gazette listings.  I don't recall seeing any tax sale properties that even had a minimum bid of 500$.  In fact, by the time you've bid on three or four properties you will be out that much, and no doubt without success.  You'd hav better luck with a lottery ticket.

Now if you meant 500...thousand, then your chances of success are pretty good - of at least getting something eventually,  just do your due diligence and make sure the property is worth what you bid, otherwise you'd be better off getting a reputable realtor to do some research for you and buy something on the mls....I have a feeling that might be a safer place for you.

I learned after my father bought a piece of land in 1973, he sold it a few years ago and lives off it now, he's 78, retired with no pension since he owned his own business, the money has come in handy now after a long term hold.  A friend of his that works at the municipal office in Toronto told him he should have waited and not bought the property until checking tax sales.  He never regretted buying his property, although he may have gotten something for much less on tax sale and told me to remember.  I remembered a few years ago and starting looking on the internet, since I have a little to invest now.
I'm sure not as many people were aware of tax sales or of the procedures involved until the internet and the 'infomercials'.

Hallo, everybody

I first heard about tax sale properties last year from a friend who wanted to buy a piece of land to build his house. He hasn't done that yet.
Great forum, great info. There is a lot to learn from this site. Thank you Frank, Pfm, Dave2, Rob and others who post very interesting topics and answer so many questions.
I am going to try my luck with these sales.

I've heard this Tax Sale Properties when a friend bought a land early this year. Well, this is not a surprise after all. Tax is there in everything we purchase, even the dead are being taxed, more so with properties we buy.
