Title: Ottawa
Post by: netpred on October 04, 2011, 02:41:34 AM
There are a bunch of new tax sales in Ottawa. This municipality is charging $36.00 per info pack (just like last time). You can check it out for yourself here:

http://www.ottawa.ca/residents/proptaxes/property_sales/tax_sales_en.html

$36.00 for Ottawa? WTF??? Who do they think they are? A wannnabe Toronto? Not even close. $36.00 for each package just boggles the mind - especially for Ottawa.

I think that I just might submit a tender using a generic form and see what they do  ;D. There is no, IMHO, question that they must accept it notwithstanding the non-refundable $36.00 fee. The trouble is I might win and who really wants anything to do with any of these Ottawa properties - most look like complete crap.

I guess they haven't made enough by adding all sorts of fees onto the tax sale so they feel justified in charging the $36.00. Maybe they have a $36.00 deficit in the budget that must be made up. Maybe the mayor is getting a $36.00 raise this year........ etc...............etc................

I better stop my rant because I'm beginning to sound a bit like Baller50 right about now.

As far as I am aware, this is the only municipality that is pulling a stunt like this. $36.00, absolutely nuts - especially for a municipality like Ottawa.

Of course I could always ask that Dave simply forwad my winnings to the treasurer for an info pack or two so my actual cost would be zero.

Come on now Netpred; lets face it you like to enjoy the sensation of having a good beer paid for by some guy named Dave2 and gloating.

That feeling is beyond price; but I agree that Ottawa is getting pricey.  That's just similar to the general comments I have made about bid prices getting pricey regionally such as in my back yard.

Let me see if there is a cheaper alternative before I comment. My only fortune maybe I can personally avoid them for a while until inventory is sold off, then I am stuck too.  >:(

This maybe a case that sourcing consolidated information from OTS or Tri Target makes sense for the investigation phase.  Only if you decide to bid do you get bid package for property(s) you want to bid on.

Check out the Burlington tax sale; 50 bucks for a tender package and it is landlocked? As far as Ottawa I went there last year and waited for the last day. Paid the 36 bucks and guess what the house was redeemed at 1.45. ???Niagara is coming up most will get redeemed but they are charging 10 bucks for a tender package. I guess the municipality's feel they can charge whatever they want. I have said it before and I will say it again, I don"t mind paying for the tender packages but there should be a fair consisted price for all the municipality's tax sales.
