Decades ago, I wanted to take out a huge (to me, at the time) business loan, with hardly any collateral, and also figured I had no chance, but took a shot, and got it. You are 100% guaranteed that, if you do not bid, you will not win. There have been an awful lot of surprised bid winners in this game. Early on, (about 1999 - 2000) I lost a few because I didn't figure on any pleasant surprises in the list of offerings, and did not go prepared with sufficient funds to make an unexpected bid. Know what? In the one that really taught me a lesson, I couldn't transfer money in time to make 2 $4,000 bids, at the minimum bid amount, and lost 2 serviced, with development fees paid, city subdivision lots that would have been worth a total $80,000 as soon as I had the deeds in hand. There were no bidders, and the city took, and kept, the land, which is now a nice parkette. I'm glad I have to detour off the main highway if I want to admire them again.

I'm still out of the running for a few more years, but, after that last occasion, I always brought sufficient monies with me to enable me to make that unexpected bid. These were properties at quite some distance, so viewing was done the morning of the bid opening.

Is anyone else stunned that the airport only went for $325k??!!  I wanted to bid but definitely figured this would go astronomically above minimum bid...

Ernest Bidder:

You can always drown your past sorrows and celebrate your future winnings in that pub you are going to win in Cannington.  ;D

Well, Dave2, I think maybe you've already been celebrating, 'cause Sunderland's 7 miles nearer than Cannington. The previous owner couldn't make a go of it, and all my friends really like free beer, so I'd last about 6 days in the business. I'm just glad I didn't see the airport! Anyone know of a private racetrack for sale? Mosport's gone.

Be patient . if things happen like last year Haldimand county should be coming up in August and maybe Toronto Drag strip will be up for tax sale.

Ernest Bidder:

Darn redemptions.  There goes your chance for 6 days of free beer drinking which I was hoping was how much their inventory would be if you bought the property at tax sale.
