Title: Dealing with Canadian Revenue
Post by: ratster on August 29, 2007, 02:44:18 PM
Has anyone had any experience in negotiating with the CRS. What I mean is experience in how to get payment plans in place. How amenable to these are they?. Are there some tricks you can share to ultimately getting the liens removed?

My argument is there is some deals to be had even if there is some big tax bills but will work only if a deal can be structured over time with the respective agencies.

Thanks

Canada Revenue probably wont negotiate a deferral of payment, why should they ? they can simply seize the property and sell it, even if they did defer payment the interest would be way above bank rates.

In generally they work with you and even setup a 90 day payment plan.  Looking for a payment period over a longer period of time?  That is where you may encounter difficulties.

I have not done it in on Canadian Land, I have done it on USA land. My gut tells me that they are more interested in recovering the money owed than mucking round. A reasonable payment plan offered by a new owner will probably be favourably looked at. The trick is what is reasonable?. In the USA they will give upto 12 months depending on the amount of money.
