I don't want to contradict you Bob, but I believe that tax sales are possible under the Loi sur les cit?s et villes. I believe I read this a few months ago on the web.

I didn't want to contradict him either.  I mentioned in a posting at least a year ago, that I had discovered (somewhere) that in Quebec the tax sale process involved tentative ownership for the first year.  During that time the previous owner could redeem the property, and so you didn't really own it at all, unless they somehow didn't show up within the time frame.

Isnt that essentially how BC works?? Owner has one year to redeem by paying you out with interest?

I believe so.  A lot of the tax sale rules in the states are similar, in that you are buying a tax-lien on a property.  At some point when the owner does pay, you get your money with interest....if they don't pay, you have forclosure rights.  I believe the law in Quebec is effectively an automatic forclosure with tax deed after the one year, if you can read French then you can get a better understanding from their legislation...I haven't looked at BC.  You should check though in each case as to wether or not other interested parties stay on title...or disappear as they do in Ontario (except for Crown interests of course).

Please contradict me if I am wrong.  If they are available that's great news, I'd like to learn more about them.
