Title: mosquitoes
Post by: worldjohn on August 26, 2008, 01:50:01 AM
Every piece of land I look at, Im attacked by mosquitoes. I love nature but these little vampires drive me crazy. I want to build a country house so any suggestions what areas might be best (top of a hill? by a lake? somewhere windy?). any products that can seriously keep them away? Is there anywhere in Ontario that has less of them?

Worldjohn:

I find I have good luck if I wait until January to March time frame.

On a more serious note,

a) build a purple martin house

b) build a bat house:

(rated capacity 600 mosquitos per hour)

and so I can avoid some of the smart alec comments no I have not gone batty.

Only other suggestion I have is a hilltop with a breeze with open fields.  Like we have here in Northumberland county.

Stay away from marshes and wetlands and there are less mosquitos.  Although waterfront can be quite infested, unless all trees are cleared away.

I was also told in cottage country buy  on east side of lakes as prevailing winds from west are blocked on west side of lake by hills at your back while on east side wind will blow them back into bush more
