Post by: TJ on December 04, 2008, 04:10:38 PM
Has anyone either searched or been out to the Lanark Township property at all.

I just wanted to get some preliminary info. before I went to the effort of making my own inquiries.   Any info. is welcome.

Thanks

Don't know much..Its 47 acres bought in 1950's for $150    I think the google earth lat longs are  45? 3'44.79"N   76?42'7.16"W to around center of property. Looks like unopened rd access only....Unless Domtar has placed  a road there and granted access ;D or alternately you have a helicopter.............worthless ..

Didn't check claimsmaps  it might show more but I don't think its worth the gas to go there. Highly doubt its worth close to minimum

Thanks Pfm,

Greatly appreciated.   I am actually looking for hunting property so 47 acres of remote land might be nice (as long as I can find some kind of 4-wheeler access route if the neighbours aren't bad).  Hopefully I can make some time to make it up there, I seriously wish this bid was due in January, December is nuts for me right now.

Thanks for the info. though, greatly appreciated.

I wouldnt lose sleep if you cant get this piece. Hunting propertys show up every couple months and they usually go fairly cheap. If you dont need the road frontage  to build a house then you should have no problem getting something.

If you are looking for large parcel of land , there are a couple in South Frontenac.  I don't know if they are good for hunting but maybe worth the look.  One is 33 acre with road access, the other 110 acres, with private road access I think.  Happy Hunting

TJ:

Don't know what type of hunting you do but it appears a tax sale property that sold last summer in Limerick has just been commercially listed.  20 acres and you can build your camp in the front and then shoot out over the river in the back

I didn't bother to be absolutely sure if it was the same property but sounds very similar or maybe a neighbouring property.  Listing price $30K+ and taxsale bid $19K+ (Not mine, I am too much a cheapskate).  This was the one that bigfoot is alleged to abandon leaving $4K behind.

After real estate commission etc. doesn't look like a very profitable investment to me.  Interesting enough I figured resale value at about $35K, but maybe I am more interested in swamps then others.  Maybe that's my problem recently with my stock investments.

I bid on that swamp as well. I was only willing to go up to $15,000 so it would have been a double if I got it. It was going to be a flip so I wasn't willing to chase it any higher. If my calculations were off it could turn into a lean deal.  It seems lately the only good deals are the lakefront properties where you have to dole out big money. (Kearney) Keeps the little guys like me out of the game.
