Im here to have fun and make some money so as i'm new and will want some help i'm sure i'll get the ball rolling by giving a little.

Quinte West has lain abandoned for many years.  At some point someone has broken the glass in the front door and gained entry.  I didn't see much harm in looking inside. The house has a pond at least three feet deep in the basement (Broken walls?) and the house is FULL of Mould.  (Yuk..!)  The ceilings have all fallen down due to the roof leaking.  The floors are covered with vermiculite insulation which has fallen from the attic.  Vermiculite is touchy stuff, two brands were readily available.  One of these contains asbestos.  Not cool stuff.

The house might be fixed but more likely it's knock the walls down time and push it into the hole.  Cleaning up the insulation might be expensive.  Typically removing from an intact attic is 15k.

Anyone have a clue as to lot values there?

Happy hunting guys....

Just one caution with Quinte West.  Don't know why but they seem to specialize in some shall I call it "challenging properties" such as dumpsites for some reason.  Some poor soul
bought a 40 acre site from them with an estimated 100,000 buried tires.

Make sure you do a good title search.  Of course if I had lots of money I would buy the one listing and sell it to Toronto for a fortune.  ;D

Whats with the Landfill anyway?

Can't develop it. Former city dump, so I assume the MOE dumping permit is expired. Price is high, tons of risk. Is the City simply trying to right the tax debt off as a loss?

I always wanted to own a landfill.....until it becomes full!

This was a full discussion on this dump and a warnings about the MOE certificates..   Anyone who bought this for 21K  ( 3 bids)  didn't even do a title search or even the most basic of  research.. ...Sorry but this comes under social Darwinism... its idiots like this that do no research and bid stupid amounts to win bids who deserve to become lessons for others..Wish they would go to the papers and tell the sad story of how they got killed on a tax sale.  bad press might help keep the idiots away

PFM continues to tell it exactly like it is and is right on with his comments. I agree that too many people play the game and take crazy shortcuts to save a couple of hundred dollars. This is extremely risky and this board is littered with tales of woe from those who have paid the price.

This practice has an inflationary effect on the bidding process and I feel little sympathy for those who have stepped into crap. The risk can be can be far greater than the purchase price. The reality is that perfect properties rarely are sold for unpaid taxes. There is usually a reason why the owner walks away from a property. The winning bidder may simply be walking into the same mess.  :(

Yes but hey Quinte West is not the only one in this area.  We locals out in the sticks like to help rich folks from Toronto be parted from their money.

I understand it improves their karma as they don't have to worry about having too much money.  There was even one in Cramahe that you owned the Ministry of Finance around a $150,000 recently after the winner bidder bought in for 1/10th the price.

Maybe we should have a contest entitled "How a fool and his/her money are soon parted"

The next time one of those guys from Toronto runs a seminar on  fortunes to be made from tax sales one of us could offer to be a speaker.   ;D
