Is this not the property where the first 3 bidders did not properly complete the outside of the envelope and the sale cancelled. I  remember the high bid was around $242,000. Crazy eh! This guy even had his lawyer prepare the tender and still not properly completed.

I must say that I'm quite surprised that relatives of the treasurer are allowed to bid. Could this not be considered a conflict and should the winning bidder be the relative, subject to dispute and cancellation of th sale?

I could not find out the whole story, but did find a good contact and was told vacant for last 15 years. You can see from the title search that the property was inherited, apparently one daughter. I am told that some neighbours had contacted the family trying to purchase but to no avail. Wonder what the state of mind. Its a sorry situation to just let a property  go for 49K in taxes when assessed at 342k

Makes you wonder, doesn't it. Just like the Oshawa sale. That guy's bid was 10 grand over recent sales. I dont get it.
I would have liked that house in the Kingsway though.  Oh well! Keep posted for Toronto sale in the fall. (Don,t ask how I know)

Sasha, the assessed value was 342000. Still waiting to find out what the high bd was for.

Yeh! That's Exactly what I was thinking. The guy who bid 297 ?? For himself?  I found that last sale similar semi in good shape sold for 380. I cant do work myslef and I'm not a contractor so must stay conservative. Second one I lost out n\on. What's up with the large bids anyway?

Hi: According to the city clerk, deposits were not being returned until next Friday,( the earliest day available for P/U) due to the large amount of paper work required to be completed by the city staff. The council chambers were quite full, must have been more than 100 in attendance, although I didn't count. Some bids did start at $100,000.00 though.
I am anxious to hear what it did go for if anyone knows. I was quite sure that it would cost me around $100,000. in renos from the info I did gather from several sources (including some neighbours) so for me , I could not justify more that low 200's.

Who stayed for the duration on the Toronto property. I heard the bid for $297000.00. Do you know what property actually went for??
I did bid but just over 220.

Before I attended the sale I had checked out solds and listed same style bungalows in area and determined the selling price around
$230000.00 .

I was also at the Oshawa sale. It was a disaster and had to be cancelled. The highest bidder $240,000 more that similar houses on MLS who did not complete his envelope as required had to be disqualified and so on with the second bidder. Third highest bidder
should have been awarded property but the whole issue went to the towns lawyers.
I never did see it come up again.  There was almost a riot at that sale, it was insane. I was also told that it was a nasty divorce and the heat, hydro etc was turned off and the owner was living in the house without these forth the last 6 mos.
Who knows. Again info from neighbours.

Yes, going to neighbours. You also may be bidding against me. This forum is open to the public and not so much a secret. Majority of public not interested in this sort of thing anyway or thousands would attend  sales. Guess what, neighbours are also informed and read the papers.They were well aware that this property was up for tax sale.
 I did look around a bit. the back of the house had lots of openings that were just the right size for squirrels , mice etc.  I'm sure that this house needs full gut and new roof to boot. What do you think around $100,000.00 for repairs?
