Firefighters 'have an idea' of fire's cause

The Orillia Fire Department is investigating a fire that damaged a south-end home Friday afternoon.
Shortly after noon, firefighters responded to 223 Matchedash St. S., where smoke and flames were seen coming from the one-storey house.
Investigators "have an idea" of where in the house the fire started, said deputy fire Chief Jeff Kirk, but he didn't release that information, saying the blaze was still under investigation.
The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
Two men, who Kirk believed to be in their late 20s or early 30s, live at the house. One is a tenant and the other is the owner, and neither was at home when the fire started, Kirk said.
The fire caused "extensive damage" to the back end of the house, he said, estimating the loss at more than $100,000.
"All their contents (are) pretty well done," he said. In the front window was a large Canadian flag, charred from the fire. The vinyl-sided home has a steel roof, which "makes it hard for us to ventilate," Kirk said, as it makes it more difficult for the smoke and heat to escape.
The cause has not yet been determined.
