Topographic Maps

I have been looking around for map websites, being that Google has made some changes resulting lots of complaints,  locations are wrong, maps don't print, directions are inaccurate and don't show maps. 

What I came across is The Atlas of Canada at Natural Resources Canada. They provide excellant Topographic maps for all of Canada at no cost. The Scale is excellant at 1:20000. I payed $80 for SoftMaps and see that the money was wasted. Check it out at http://atlas.nrcan.gc.ca/site/english/search/advanced_findaplace_search_form

I have found that the best topo maps are either with the local municipality planning and/or engineering departments, and that your local university library also has excellent maps of all of Canada in the Geography section.  McMaster for example, has a special topo section.   

Two years ago I bought a water access property in the middle of winter (yes site unseen), however I was able to satisfy myself as to the topographic aspects of the site by visiting the Library, and I used Maps Google to see that it had decent vegetation and wasn't a barren landscape - also, to check out what was in the surrounding area.

Good sight.   The maps you can get through the counties are also quite informative in regards to topo.
