best way to find old surveys?

Hi folks,
My  newest question is ...what it the best way to find old surveys?  If there is one, would it be at the land registry office  or is there any other place to check?

2nd question ...can someone help me decipher...

"the land described in this tax deed, is not liable to a tax imposed under the Ministry Act and accordingly, under section 384 of the Municipal Act 2001, the registration of this notice does not create a severance of the surface rights from the mining rights".

Finally, does anyone have experience with the ANSI designation?  It sounds like there is the possibility for property tax exemption if the land is designated as an area of scientific interest...but just beginning to look into it.

Thought some of the experienced folks might have info on some of these topics.  Still not sure of the answer to Mike's question...re:the one that got away.  Cheers,

If you have the registered plan number you can obtain a copy of the plan from the corresponding registry office. Plans starting with 21R would be in Hastings County, 42R would be Parry Sound District etc.

For an updated list ,I would suggest checking the Ontario Ministry of Gov't Services site. They have a list of all of the Registry Office Locations as well.
Typically the Plan Number will be included in the legal description of the property if the land is surveyed on a registered plan. Many times the MLS listings will neglect to include that information so you may have to have the realtor confirm the plan number.

Property which is designated as ANSI should generally "automatically" be eligble provided the required conditions and restrictions are met (e.g. minimum 1/2 acre, no development no logging etc)
