Tax sale listings in local newspaper.

Hello everyone,
This is first time posting. I started to follow this about 3 months ago. Then in the local paper the Town listed 30 parcels of land that is being sold for tax arrears by public tender, but I did not see it listed on this site. Is it mandatory for them to list it elsewhere or can the Town do as they choose? Tenders will be received until 8 Feb 07, and then opened that same day @ 3PM. I plan to attend just to see how all this works. Comments, anyone?

We don't know which town you are referring to. If it is a municipality in Ontario, then it must be advertised four times in a local paper and at least once in the Ontario Gazette prior to the sale. There is still one Gazette to be published prior to the sale date of February 8th - and it may appear there. There is nothing in the act which requires them to publish within a reasonable time frame and while this weekend's Gazette doesn't leave much time, it does meat the legal requirements.
Rob posts all of the Gazette (for Ontario) listings on this site on a voluntary basis - it is not remuneration and the municipalities are not involved in this site.

Thanks for the quick response. The lots are on the edge of Tillsonburg, ON. Vacant land, no services and adjoining an existing subdivision. Minimum tender amounts are from $2,440.80 to $4,636.96, depending on the lot. It appears that someone started but could not complete a plan of subdivision for whatever reason?
I would think that a developer would be interested in the whole works, but that takes big bucks. Not for me.

It is on the Town of Tillsonburg web-site, and will be in the gazette this weekend. There are thirty lots for sale, and there is a good chance that more than half will be redeemed prior to the sale. This is a last stage of a subdivision that was started in '94, and the lots are unserviced. Bottom line is that if you want to buy one you will have to co-operate with all of the other owners in pooling resources to get the properties serviced before anyone can build (not an easy task - but doable). good luck.
