Unorganized Territories

Hi guys, an unorganized plot of land is what we're really after, but cringe at the idea of paying retail...
Do these ever come up for Tax Sales in Northern Ontario?
How rare are they if they do?
Where would these sales be conducted? Would it be in Oshawa where the provincial land taxes are remitted (
http://www.mah.gov.on.ca/Page2103.aspx
)?
Lot's of question, I know... Thanks for the help!

It's my understanding that all PLT (Provincial Land Tax) in the north is billed and remitted to the Ministry of Revenue office in Thunder Bay.
A notice of tax arrears certificate will be registered against the property however , the property will be forfeited to the Crown if the outstanding taxes and penalties are not paid. Thus....no tax sale.

Ouch! Well I guess we won't continue to hold our breath for a sale then.
I'm still a little confused though... Generally, the land taxes for unorganized properties are quite small in comparison to it's retail value and
especially
in comparison to a similar property in an organized township. For an extreme example, check this out:
http://www.recreationland.net/recreation_land_for_sale/ontario/Hunting_Land_and_Large_Acreage_For_Sale/File_2_-__160_ACRES_IN_LITTLE_TOWNSHIP_NORTHEAST_OF_TIMMINS_ONTARIO/index.html
So my point is, how would a delinquent owner recover his equity portion of the property after the crown confiscates it for a meager amount of land taxes owing? I understand in a normal tax sale, he could apply to receive the excess funds from the sale... But in your scenario, how does this happen? Are they obligated to turn around and sell it within a certain amount of time? Maybe even in a discounted "fire sale" fashion to push a quick settlement?
I'm very interested to hear more details about this, if possible.
Thanks!

I am certainly no expert in this field so I would suggest that you contact the Provincial Land Tax division of the Ministry of Revenue in Thunder Bay. 1-866-400-2122.
I do however have first hand knowledge of a lady who lost a property for non payment. Ministry of Revenue also advised her in writing that " Forfeiture of the land to the Crown does not relieve the taxpayer of the obligation to pay any tax, penalty, cost and interest which are outstanding on the date the land is forfeited to the Crown."
