Sheriffs are coming out of hibernation. Huge number this morning. Did not catch them all because did not want to take over the entire board with Sherriffs sales.

I read saturdays gazette,...The sheriffs are definitely busy.
How do you determine actual amount owed to bank, I can pull a title but it wont show whats actually owed, just max owed . IE House could be security on 300K line of credit but there may be nothing actually outstanding.
Will bank or sheriff disclose actual outstanding amount on mortgage , seems to me it would be a violation of privacy laws..

Pfm1011 says, "Will bank or sheriff disclose actual outstanding amount on mortgage , seems to me it would be a violation of privacy laws.."
One of the recent sheriff's sales I was interested in had a crown lien registered on title by CRA. It was first registered about 10 years ago. The deed only showed the initial amount of the debt.
I wanted to find out the current balance of the debt. It could be much higher than the initial amount or could be less. I contacted Revenue Canada. They said that they would not release any personal information unless I had a written consent from the debtor.
Next day, I went down to the sheriff's office and talked to one of the staff there. She said that all I could get was the contents as advertised in the newspaper. There was no new information available. I said to her that no one then would likely purchase the subject property unless the current debt was fully disclosed. She said we could just wait and find out about that on the auction day.
I went to the auction anyway and obviously no bidder there seemed to be serious. The auction was cancelled by the sheriff due to unacceptable low bids.
