I am looking for someone that could fix up a place on a large body of water that has excellent fishing. I am looking for a cabin myself and am willing to pay someone to fix a place up. If anyone knows of any places they might know of please let me know and we can work something out. Prefer within 3 hours of all major borders of Minnesota (Duluth, International Falls, Lake of the Woods). Please let me know Thanks Jim.

Last time I checked, Southern ontario was nowhere near any of the Minnesota borders.
Would be over 12 hours drive anyways.

Hi Speed freak,..... doesnt International Falls Minnesota border the Canadian Border?? I have crossed there many of times and I would say that is (one) of the most southern parts of Ontario along with the other cities I mentioned ??

I don't mean to sound harsh, but you must've failed geography.
The area you're referring to is referred to as Northern Ontario, or Northwestern Ontario since it is the northernmost area of Ontario.. The good news is there should be alot of land available there, and you don't necessarily need to find one at a tax sale to find cheap land out there.
I've attached a map of Ontario to maybe help clear up any confusion.
Good luck in your search!

Musky55: You can find some of the best tax sale property deals in that region.
"The area you're referring to is referred to as Northern Ontario, or Northwestern Ontario"
From a Toronto point of view.
I think they would rather be called Eastern Manitoba.

I heard about a large group of that area lobbying to be taken over by Manitoba. Would definately make sense since they're VERY isolated from the provincial government in Toronto.
Florida is almost the same distance to Toronto as Lake of the Woods!

The history of how the borders in that part of Ontario, Manitoba, Sask, Alberta, NorthWest T. were formed is interesting and shows no matter how far back we go politics & power plays a greater hand then we think.

I live in Northwestern Ontario and " YES " we are very isolated from the rest of Ontario but it's a great place to live. I live in Thunder Bay which is the main city in Northwestern Ontario with a whopping population of approximately 110k to 120k. I live approximately 8 hours (vehicle) away from Winnipeg and Minneapolis. The main industry out here is Forestry and Mining. Our forestry industry has suffered alot with the softwood dispute with the US and high energy costs for our mills in the Northwest.
I good retirement town in the Northwest is Marathon as the many Southern Ontario retired couples have bought homes for dirty cheap. You can pick up a nice home along the lake for $50k or less. Plus the hunting, fishing, hiking is amazing!!!
