Well it's time for another bet. netpred says that this property will redeem (probably this week) but for sure before registration of a tax deed. I am willing to give 24 to 1 odds on this one. One pint of my favourite ale at Dave's watering hole if I win. If I lose, I deliver 24 bottles of Canadian swill of my choice to your doorstep.

As you know I am a sucker for a bet so I will take you up on it.  Can I suggest a substitute for your swill, a nice clear liquid from Cape Breton. Recipe as follows:  (note I still expect the 24 bottles)

?Go to the market and buy 25 pounds of cornmeal, 100 pounds of sugar, 100 gallons of water and 6 ounces of yeast.
?Next, you will be required to collect the necessary equipments, like a few large pots, a large pressure cooker and a coiled copper pipe.
?Put water in the pot and place it on stove. Keep on boiling it until it reaches a rolling boil.
?Add cornmeal to the water. The resultant mixture will be known as mash.
?Keep aside the mash and let it cool down, till it is warm to the touch.
?Now, add sugar and yeast to the warm mash.
?Again, keep it aside and let it ferment for 4 to 5 days.
?Keep on checking the mash and when it stops bubbling, it means that it is ready. At this stage, the mash is known as sour mash or beer.
?Put the sour mash into the pressure cooker and keep it on fire, till it goes up to 173 degrees Fahrenheit.
?At this temperature, the alcohol content of the mixture will start rising to the surface.
?With the help of a coiled copper pipe, passed through cold water, trap vaporized alcohol in a separate vessel.
?As the vapors from the cooker pass through the cold copper tubing, they will slowly condense into the liquid called moonshine.
?Finally, filter the moonshine through charcoal, making it absolutely fit for consumption.

I will give you a bonus if I lose,  we will schedule so DRD can join us (I will cover for the first one) and we can all compain as a group about the high local bid prices.

My mothers maiden name was Maguire and with that I am counting on the luck of the Irish.  I hope you have a good source of mash as 24 bottles require a lot of it.  

We have a lot of producers around here so I might be able to get a good
price for a quantity ordered in bulk.

Dave's recipe sounds interesting, but leave me out of the bet.  After my experience with redemptions this past summer in Parry Sound, anything is possible.  That cost me a lot of money, the rules need to be changed...after the election we need to all canvass our Members of Parliament to change the rules...no redemptions allowed if I am involved sounds good to me.

Frank, I think that I told you how badly I felt for you on the one you "lost" after the tender while waiting for the damn clearance letter. I'm all for lobbying for a change. I think the reason the Act was changed from a one year redemption period to a (theoretical) no redemtion period is to remove uncertaintly and to permit municipalities to better recover tax arrears. So it seems like a good idea to remove this last bit of uncertainty from the current legislation.

Oh Well probably good for all us given the unrealistically high bid prices we usually find in this area and other vacation area properties east of Metro Toronto.  You are lucky I probably saved you from an unfruitful drive.  At least with this you get to savour your winnings and give me a hard time in person.

You can also continue to try and convince me that I should not just sell the land but take it to the next level.

DRD when are you available in this neck of the woods. I will try to co-ordinate this with you.   PM me.  

When I get back to normal tax sale buying and selling I will have to start looking to more realistic pricing areas like where this guy   prowls although he is formidible competion in his own right.    

Fortunately for me I have found some local sources of property purchase cheaper then the local tax sale prices.  I down and three to go this fall.  The specifics are not for the public domain. If they all come in I will be a busy boy.

If worse comes to worse there is always Moonbeam.
