Probably a good opportunity to get one of those properties for a minimum bid considering the lack of time for making a bid, let alone researching the properties.

As for the solar, yes it can work but you won't get a ton of power out of it. I know someone that went with a handful of panels and a small wind turbine and they had enough power for some lighting, an hour or two of TV (14 inch) a day and that's about it.

Small gas generators are fairly cheap these days though too, and not that expensive to run.

I forgot to mention, while I started out with the solar system, I quickly realized its limitations and have now added a 3000 watt silent diesel genertor which I picked up for $900 (there are some whole house systems out there (12 kw that you can pick up for less than $4,000) and these are ideal for the cottage or trailer that you use infrequently - beats the heck out of paying Hydro One just for being connected.
