Water lots?
«

I noticed that the two propeties up for bid this month in North Bay are "water lots". This made me curious so I googled it and the information I got I seemed to interpret that it could be any of the following for example:
-swampland (or land that is underwater at least some of the time)
-a sort of structure over water (docks, pier, boathouse, storage)
-temporary boat mooring area
I just found this whole "water lot" idea very amusing. It's not something I would ever bid on, but just for curiousity sake, does anyone have any ideas on which of these categories the lots up for bid this month would fall under?

These properties:
TENDER #2006-107
Water Lot - Lake Nipissing - (from shoreline into Lake Nipissing)
Parcel 9666 Nipissing, Water Lot, Lake Nipissing
in Front of Lots I, J and K, South Gorman as in NP5416
City of North Bay, District of Nipissing
Minimum Tender Amount: $1,599.45
TENDER #2006-108
Water Lot – Lake Nipissing - (from shoreline into Lake Nipissing)
Parcel 1529 Widdifield and Ferris, Water Lot 1,
Widdifield in Lake Nipissing, Located in Front of Village Lot E,
Timmins Street covering Part of Lot 22, Concession C, Widdifield
City of North Bay, District of Nipissing
Minimum Tender Amount: $1,798.73
Just judging by the "from shoreline into Lake Nipissing" and the price, I can assume they are vacant pieces of land that are probably made up of rock that extend into Lake Nipissing.

I talked to the folks in North Bay about these lots and they are indeed "water lots", under about 10ft of water. Not sure why anyone would want them, and the lady I was talking to agreed and laughed.
cheers

Thanks Trent,
That's interesting. I wonder what they could be used for.

Maybe trick them into giving you a building permit and build a waterfront cottage on piers.

Friends of mine recently bought a water lot.
In the case that I know about. The water lot was on Westlemakoon lake, they are building a house, and wanted the option to put a boat house in. Years ago they damed the river flowing out of this lake, and the water level came up about 10 feet flooding parcels of land.
If they had not purchased the water lot in front of their house they would not have the option of building a boat house or dock. I assume water lots are only valuable to those who own the adjacent shoreline. Perhaps there are other uses, that I am unaware of.
