Here?s something that you might find to be of interest.  The attached .pdf is a review of all of the tax sales in Ontario in 2010.  It shows:

?   How many properties were advertised for tax sale in 2010
?   How many municipalities advertised tax sales
?   How many properties each of these municipalities advertised
?   Listings broken down by geographic area
?   How many properties were listed each month
?   Listings broken down by Region/County/District

Further, this is not a complete list is it? It only contains those municipalities that use OTS or Real Tax. So here is the biggest tip that I have ever given here or anywhere. Compare Jeff's list to a list of all of the municipalities in Ontario. Bid on only those that do not appear on Jeff's list. Bargain time!

Hi Netpred,

This is a complete list.  It shows every property that was advertised for tax sale in Ontario in 2010, regardless of whether or not the municipality utilized the services of OntarioTaxSales.ca or Realtax.

As for the selling prices, we have the selling prices of all of our Featured Properties.  There were 222 Featured Properties in 2010.  We also have the number of tenders that were submitted, the assessed value, the amount of the annual taxes, and quite a bit more, for those 222 properties.  This information is available to our Gold Members at ontariotaxsales.ca/nc/tax-sale-results.html

We won't however, post this information publicly, nor will we allow it to be posted.  It's information that we have compiled ourselves, and we make it available solely to our Gold Members as one of the key benefits of their membership.

Do you keep any statistics on redeemed properties?

As a matter of fact we do have statistics on redeemed properties (i.e. the tax sale was cancelled), but only for our Featured Properties.  The municipalities that don't have us Feature their properties don't provide us with that information.

Of our 222 Featured Properties in 2010, 46 of the tax sales were cancelled and 1 was postponed before the tenders were opened. 

When the sale of one of our Featured Properties is cancelled or postponed, the municipality notifies us within minutes.  We then mark the property Cancelled or Postponed on our website, and we send out a tweet on Twitter.  The tweet can be quite helpful, especially if you were about to drive out to the property or to the municipal office, or if you were about to have a title search done.

Personally I feel like it is similar to getting married.  Whether you like it our not you get a mother-in-law so the smart plan is to accept things as they are and make the best of it. 

Of course you can always do what I did and get the situation as my father observed when I told him who I was going to marry. "You have everyman's dream; you have a mother in law who is 5,000 miles away and does not speak a word of your language."

We also have some interesting information our hardworking Rob provides which I would like to thank him for as well.

OK, before anyone gets the wrong idea - I did not shoot my mother in law.

The info that you have provided does not seem to indicate how many properties actually sold. I think that you could only provide that info for properties that use Real Tax or OTS (unless you or an employee attend every opening).

As an aside, I continue to believe (for good reason) that the best deals are on properties in municipalities that do not use the sevices that are offered by your companies. Getting back to Dave's remarks - you are actually worse than a wife because we choose who we marry and we can always divorce a spouse but we are unfortunately stuck with you .

Shooting my mother-in-law in my case was not necessary   and might have had negative effects that I did not want on my marriage of now (almost) 35 years.

Netpred:  On this one we obviously disagree.  Its not the first time I have disagreed with someone on this board.  We all have to start somewhere and for a person new to Tax sales Jeff or his counterparts can perform a valuable service.  I know because I got into this business courtesy of one of Jeff's competitors long before I even knew of this board. 

In my case I solved my mother-in-law problem (if I ever had one) by non violent means and given my experience with her daughter before we got married (I got bitten by a poisonous snake in Finland believe it or not), I realized that it might not be a bad idea to accept my fate and make her my wife.  (I am still not certain If I had any choice in the matter as my own Scottish paternal grandmother warned me what was going to happen when I was a boy of eleven.)

Given the strength of your belief I would be remiss in my approach in at least pointing out another possible European solution.  Whever you choose to employ it and how you do is up to you.

Tax sales are like getting your wife some roses.  The key is to get the flowers without the thorns.  Unfortunately blue roses are tougher to get then we all would like.

Oh! it only costs Oburpman most $75 search and if 100 suckers request the info 100X150=$15000- and those supposed frebies (Pics and info)- ( Township advertisement)- Your added fees are TACKED on the tax arrears owing min. amount--couple thousand bucks-what a gold mine you have Jef.Now if the  property owner paid up--the amount of taxes/legal/ advertising and your fees--that is a crime buster--that's called milking the system.You must really feel good and filthy rich from the poor
